FOTD: Glowy Skin, Glossy Lips

IMG_3440

Hello my bunnies!

I posted this face of the day photo on my Instagram and Facebook and one of my lovely followers wanted me to post the details. I almost never post my day to day makeup photos on my blog but I think I’ll do it more often from now own.

I’ve got super dry skin so I love looking radiant and glowy all the time. With summer going on full blast in Oz Land, I love this bronzed glow look even more and I’ve found the perfect formula to achieve it!

To achieve the glow in this look, I mixed the Josie Maran Argan Illuminizer with my foundation. You can apply the illuminizer on your face before applying the foundation but I prefer mixing them together. You can also pop it on your cheekbones before powdering your face. I used the L’oreal True Match for coverage and the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation for the dewyness. Other foundations I recommend for a luminous finish are: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation and L’oreal Lumi Magique foundation. IMG_3462

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light is my holy grail powder to achieve a ‘glow from within’ finish. It literally gives you a blurring effect and a subtle glow that is not overtly shiny therefore it’s ideal for all over the face use.

My favorite powder highlighter at the moment is the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter Pressed in Opal. It is soo finely milled. It looks beautiful on the cheek bones, bridge of the nose and on the cupid’s bow. I also think it goes fabulously with the Argan Illuminizer.

March Favorites 2014 !

marchfaves

marchfaves2

Helloo my bunnies!

So the weather change has really gotten to me and now I’m sick at home, bored and lonely :/ Really wasn’t feeling like putting any makeup on my face so thought it’s about time I actually do a monthly favorites post! I think of doing this every month but I never get around to do it but here I am today!

MAKEUP!

LORAC PRO PALETTE: this palette has been around for awhile now and has been one of the  most hyped palettes ever. Unfortunately you can’t get it here in Oz…I went above and beyond to get my hands on this….more like my Aunt in Canada did….cuz it was sold out in all the sephoras! Anyway it’s been over a year that I had this but this past month I’ve been reaching for it soo much! 16 eyeshadows- 8 matte and 8 shimmery….all neutral shades, very buttery and pigmented…a little powdery in my opinion but overall a perfect a go to palette especially since the packaging is so thin! Really convenient to travel with!

HOURGLASS AMBIENT LIGHTING POWDER IN DIM LIGHT: I’ve got the limited edition palette that actually has three shades but the Dim Light is a permanent product….and its AMAZEBALLS! Seriously when you apply it after your foundation and concealer, it just finishes your makeup so nicely…kinda like blurs imperfections and makes your skin look flawless and glowing from within…it’s just beautiful…can’t describe it….you gotta try this first hand!

L”OREAL NUDE MAGIQUE EAU DE TEINT: new product to hit the Australian drugstores….it’s a really nice lightweight foundation …very liquidy but very easy to use…it has a silicony feeling to it and its just melts into your skin….it’s a really nice texture…it’s recommended to use your hands to apply which works fine and is very quick but I feel when I use a buffing brush (Real Techniques Expert Face Brush) I can get more coverage.

REAL TECHNIQUES MIRACLE COMPLEXION SPONGE: I love this sponge! It’s a close dupe to the beauty blender in less than half the price….I haven’t really closely compared the two sponges but all I know that I love this sponge…the shape of it is amazing and it applies foundation flawlessly.

BOURJOIS BEAUTY FULL VOLUME MASCARA: omg this mascara has become holy grail! Shout out to my friend Farah for recommending this! It creates so much volume to my wimpy lashes…it’s quite unbelievable! The wand is quite standard nothing to fancy but I think that’s what works best!

MODELS PREFER INFINITE COLOUR EYE PENCILS: already done a review on these pencils…awesome stuff…check it out here: https://lovecraftnwitchheart.wordpress.com/2014/03/27/mini-review-models-prefer-infinite-colour-eye-pencils/

NYX BLUSH IN PINKY: just a nice pinky rose color…its not entirely matte has a slight sheen to it when you swatch it but on the face it looks matte….just a good everyday blush that I’ve been using a lot especially for work.

MAC SIMMER BLUSH LE: it’s a limited edition blush from the MAC Tropical Taboo collection so I was a bit hesitant to include this but I’ve been using it a lot this month…it’s quite similar to NARS Orgasm and Deep Throat maybe slightly darker.

MAC GEM OF ROSES LIPSTICK LE: another limited edition product from way back…..but I love this lipstick…my go to lipstick for work…a really nice rosy nude with a lustre finish

 SKIN AND HAIR

CETAPHIL GENTLE SKIN CLEANSER: so this one’s for all skin types and it lives up to its name…it’s a very gentle cleanser…it doesn’t lather up or anything but don’t be fooled by that…it actually cleans very well but of course don’t expect to clean off all your makeup…it works best after you’ve actually taken off your makeup.

CETAPHIL MOISTURISING CREAM FOR DRY SENSITIVE SKIN: I’ve also been loving this moisturiser…I’ve got very dry skin and it just gets dryer with the change in weather but this product has really kept my skin hydrated…I also moisturise my hands with it aswell…it’s a very good moisturiser and it’s not greasy or sticky at all…LOVEEE IT!

GARNIER MICELLAR CLEANSING WATER: okay so this is apparently the drugstore dupe for Bioderma which I’ve never tried because it’s super expensive…so when this came out I wanted to give it a shot and I really like it. It’s pretty good at removing all my makeup…definitely needs a bit more when it comes to removing mascara and the thicker foundations i.e. Estee Lauder Double Wear but for the price it’s pretty good…I think its about 12 bucks for the 400 ml bottle compared to Bioderma which is about 40 bucks for a 500 ml bottle.

SCHWARZKOPF (yes I had to stop and check the spelling a couple of times) EXTRA CARE NORMAL BALANCE LEAVE IN TREATMENT: i really like this product for its price. Again shout out to my friend Monica for recommending this…it makes my hair very soft…I use it right after I shower on wet hair and my hairs feels really soft after its dry….pretty good and it’s just 7 bucks!

TONI & GUY NOURISH RECONSTRUCTION MASK: this is actually a really hydrating mask for your hair…It’s a creamy texture and smells pretty good….I do go a little overboard with it because my hair’s just soooo dry it’s like the Sahara! I just leave it on for 5 minutes after I shampoo my hair and then rinse off…and it works quite nicely…again good for the price!

After all that rambling I’ve finally managed to reach the end of this post…I did wanted to include some miscellaneous favorites but I’m sure you’ve had enough by now so until next time!  XO XO

Fragrance Favorites: Nicki Minaj Pink Friday and Minajesty (new) !!

minajestynpinkfriday

Hi my bunnies!

I finally got some time off everything and I couldn’t delay on a post any longer! I’m no fan of Nicki Minaj but I’m in love with her perfumes! Now word of caution for you guys who don’t like sweet fruity/floral scents: this is not for you…but I on the other hand am all for fruity and florals! Some people hate the bottles and I will admit they are very inconvenient especially the HUGE head! I don’t necessary find them tacky looking though…i just think they are fun and just nice to have in your perfume collection. So today I’m reviewing Pink Friday (original) which came out a while ago followed by two different special/exclusive editions (smells almost identical)…and I’m also reviewing Minajesty which just came out very recently. I got it today but I’ve been smelling it in store from last week….so let’s get started:

PINK FRIDAY (eau de parfum/100 ml/ AU$89)

pinkfriday

TOP NOTES

Carambola (Star Fruit)/Italian Mandarin/Blackberry

MIDDLE NOTES

Lotus/Star Jasmine

BASE NOTES

Musk/Vanilla/Wood/Pear/Caramel

For me, the Caramel and Italian Mandarin notes really stand out at first and as it settles down the Jasmine notes come through…together its just a really nice combination with a bit of floral, fruity, and toffee scents yet quite soft and not in your face sweet. It does have a slight muskiness to it which is great because you can wear this perfume both during the day and night. Longevity and Sillage is very mediocre, which I feel is the case for most of the celebrity perfumes.

MINAJESTY (eau de parfum/50ml/AU$59)

minajesty

TOP NOTES

Red Berries/Lemon/Peach

MIDDLE NOTES

Magnolia/Frangipani/Orchid

BASE NOTES

Tonka Bean/Vanilla/Musk

At first whiff its like a burst of tropical fruits! I find the dominant scent is of passionfruit and pears yet there’s no passionfruit in it so it must be something else. It also has a citrusy smell mixed with the fruitiness. I could properly sense the transition of notes in this perfume. It moves onto the floral notes but quickly changes to a creamy scent that I’m guessing is coming from the vanilla and tonka beans. The fruitiness is constant but it just smells yummier when the vanilla and tonka beans come out. This is a full on summery day time scent! Just reminds of sipping a fruity cocktail in a tropical island! Longevity and Sillage is still pretty mediocre which lets both the perfumes down.

Overall I’ll rate both the perfumes 3/5 – even though I’m in love with the scents…the longevity and sillage is not good at all considering that they are both eau de parfums. Yet I will say they do fall under my favorites especially for summer (its summer in AU!!)

Fragrance Favorites: Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Eau De Parfum

Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy

Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy

Hi Sugar Plums!

I know I’ve been MIA for the last few days and I apologize for that. I’ve been so so busy with uni, assignments, work, trying to stay fit and trying fitting in all my other daily chores in my schedule! To make up for my absence I’ll hopefully have a couple more posts up by tonight!

Since I own a lot of perfumes and I’m always buying more, I figured I will start a series called Fragrance Favorites  and review perfumes that I love and recommend! Anyway, without further ado let’s get going with the highlight of this post, which is one of my favorite perfumes of the moment: Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy!

I’ve seen this perfume around but I never really wanted to purchase it until I heard mouldyfruit talk about it in one of her favorites videos. I loved the packaging and she mentioned it was a ‘sweet’ smell. I’m a sucker for anything sweet! The only problem was the pricetag! It costs $145 (AUD) for the 100ml bottle !!! I’m a poor uni student on a budget and since my love for makeup and perfumes knows no bounds, I always have to keep myself in check and look for specials sales and deals. So I opted for a 30 ml bottle at first. As I started wearing this perfume, I got so many compliments from complete strangers. People were asking me what perfume I was wearing. I didn’t realize this perfume would have such an impact, so when I saw that the 100ml bottle was reduced to $69 in Priceline, I was ecstatic!!! The sale should still be on till the 11th of September so if you’re in Australia, you can still get this perfume for a steal!

Packaging:

I really like the packaging. Its quite heavy and feels expensive. I love the fuchsia colored ribbon and just love all the gold bling!!! (You  can see some close up shots in the collage above.)

Notes:

This perfume is often characterized as a floral fragrance but when you break down the notes, you will see that there is a blend of various different elements.

According to fragantica.com , the notes are as follows:

Top Notes: wild berries and mandarin

Middle Notes: honeysuckle, gardenia, and jasmine

Base Notes: amber, caramel, vanila, sandalwood, and pralines

* (top notes comes first, then middle notes, and finally settles into base notes)

Personally, when I first spray this perfume, I right away pick up a citrus scent which I’m assuming comes from the mandarin.

It quickly moves onto the floral scent and I could primarily smell the jasmine.

Finally it settle downs to predominantly the caramel scent.

I can’t stress how beautiful this perfume smells. I will say it’s more of a daytime perfume. It’s youthful and very chic. Not overly girly though, yet still feminine. I just completely love it!

Longevity:

My only complain is the longevity of the perfume. For the price, you would expect it to stay on longer especially since its an eau de parfum. It’s however has a medium longevity. It doesn’t go away instantly but it’s not long lasting either. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to test the sillage (scented trailed left behind) of the perfume, but according to other users, it’s also moderate.

Hope you guys enjoyed this post and are convinced enough to try this perfume! Till then XO!

Review: TheBalm Instain Blush in Argyle and Toile

instainblush

Hi my lovelies!

I’ve been meaning to do this post for awhile now! TheBalm InStain blushes have stained my heart and my cheeks…in a good way ofcourse! They are $26.95 at David Jones (Australia). You can also buy them from here. These range of blushes are described as long wearing, staining powder blush. I own two of the six shades but I intend to buy more! The shades are:

Argyle (petal pink)

Toile (strawberry)

Swiss Dot (peach)

Lace (bright pink)

Houndstooth (mauve)

Pinstripe (plum)

I own Argyle and Toile. They are both extremely beautiful colors. TheBalm have divided them into two categories: spring or fall. Argyle is a spring blush and Toile is a fall blush! How fitting with Spring approaching the Southern Hemisphere and fall approaching the North! But I feel these two in particular can be worn in any season! They are both extremely pigmented! And boy they weren’t kidding with the ‘long wearing’ part! I wore these blushes for about 8 hours and they were going strong for all 8!

Argyle (left) and Toile (right)

Argyle (left) and Toile (right)

They come in a very nice compact cardboard packaging (classic theBalm) and also has a nice mirror. I love love love the packaging! Can’t stress enough how cute the packaging is!! And obviously the names are reminiscent of different patterns and the patterns are also shown in the packaging!

On to the swatches!

Argyle is a blue toned pale pink with a matte finish. It kicks up some powder when swatched so a word of caution there.

Toile is a coral with a bit of orange and pink. It’s a more of a satin finish and very buttery.

Toile (left) and Argyle (right)

Toile (left) and Argyle (right)

This is me wearing the blushes….lighting sucks in my room sorry if they aren’t two visible 😦

Argyle (left) and Toile (right)

Argyle (left) and Toile (right)

I can’t wait to try more of these blushes! I still can’t decide which one to get next. Can’t buy all of them together…I’m a broke student 😦 I’m debating between Houndstooth and Lace.

I highly recommend these blushes guys! And they are pretty reasonably priced! XO

Favorite Fall Lips!

falllipscollage

Today’s post is dedicated to all the beauties living above the equator! Fall’s fast approaching the Northern Hemisphere. It’s time to change the color scheme of both your wardrobes and your faces! Since I’ve already experienced this beautiful season this year, I thought I should talk about the lipstick shades that I’ve personally enjoyed wearing. KEEP IN MIND that this is just a guide to what colors you can wear this fall, you don’t have to own the exact lipstick as shown in the photos. I have included some different options for each category; both high end and drugstore alternatives.

BERRIES AND PLUMS

Mac Heaux (LE) , Mac Rebel, Rimmel Kate Moss 107

Mac Heaux (LE) , Mac Rebel, Rimmel Kate Moss 107

Berry is the color of the season! When I think of fall/autumn I think of berry or plum lips! My favorite berry lipstick for fall was the Rimmel Lasting Finish lipstick by Kate Moss in 107 (third from left). In the photo its showing up more plummy but in real life its more of a deep maroon berry color. It’s semi matte and I love it. I’ve worn this the most this fall!

Another color that has been my all time favorite for fall is Mac Rebel (middle). It’s a very nice semi dark plummy purply color with a satin finish. It’s a very popular lipstick in the beauty community.

Lastly, I’ll be talking about a limited edition shade. It’s from the RiRi loves Mac collection and it’s called Heaux (first from left). The RiRi collection is still available in Australia (online) and maybe available in some other countries. This is considered to be a matte version of rebel or atleast pretty close to it. I find it to have a more pink tone whereas rebel leans more purple. Nevertheless I love this shade !!

Some other awesome berry/plum lippies:

YSL Rouge Volupte in Forbidden Burgundy 12

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Venom

Mac Diva and Media

Milani Color Statement in  Sangria and Black Cherry

Wet N Wild Cherry Bomb and Sugar Plum Fairy

REDS

Mac Ruby Woo, Mac RiRi Woo, and Nars Dragon Girl

Mac Ruby Woo, Mac RiRi Woo (LE), and Nars Dragon Girl

Red lippies are timeless! Red lips make any look glamorous in any time of the year. I personally tend to reach for my blue-toned reds during fall. This is completely a personal choice because many of you might like warmer toned reds reminiscent of fall leaves. I just love my blue tones in the colder weathers and blue tones makes you teeth look whiter!!

First I have the cult favorite: Mac Ruby Woo (first from left). This is the best red lipstick in my opinion! If you don’t have it, please go get it! It is a matte and quite drying that I must say. But the awesomeness of the color makes up for all that!

Then I have Mac RiRi Woo (middle). This is also limited edition but it’s still available in Australia and it will be repromoted with special packaging this October! It has a retro matte finish which is Mac’s new finish. Retro matte finish is actually drier and stiff. This shade is very very very similar to Ruby Woo, just a tad bit darker. I love it! And that’s no surprise since I love Ruby Woo so much!

Lastly I have Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl (third from the left). This is a more pinky toned red. It’s absolutely fabulous. It’s also easier to apply since it’s in a pencil form!

Other blue toned Reds:

Guerlain Kiss Kiss Lipstick in Exces de Rouge 523 (a favorite of Dita Von Teese)

Guerlain Rouge G in Garconne

Mac Russian Red

Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Red Label and Best Red

Wet N Wild Stoplight Red 911d

Nyx Round Lipstick in Chaos

PURPLES

Mac Heroine, TopShop Straight Ace, and Maybelline Hot Plum

Mac Heroine (LE), TopShop Straight Ace, and Maybelline Hot Plum

Purple lips have been all the trend recently. Even though it might be a bit unconventional, I think purple lips look fab in fall!

Firstly I have Mac Heroine (first from left) which is a limited edition color. This maybe available through Ebay or Amazon but I had to include it since it’s one of my very favorite lipsticks! It’s such a beautiful purple and quite hard to dupe. I love it!

Then I have TopShop Straight Ace (middle). This lipstick is a close dupe of Heroine so if you have TopShop near you, it might be worth checking out. It has a creamier, glossier finish thought and is a tad bit darker.

Lastly , I have Maybelline Vivids Hot Plum (third from left). It’s a beautiful fuschia purple and one of my recent buys! It’s cheap too!

Other Purples:

OCC Lip Tar in Hoochie

Lime Crime Airborne Unicorne

Mac Up the Amp

Nyx Round Lipstick Castle

NUDES

Revlon Balm Stain Honey, Mac Modesty, and Mac Brave

Revlon Balm Stain Honey, Mac Modesty, and Mac Brave

I usually love bright lipsticks and wear them all the time, but during fall and winter I do wear a lot of nudes aswell. These are the nudes that I’ve been loving this fall.

Revlon Balm Stain in Honey has been my go to everyday nude. It’s so easy to apply that I just wear it all the time when I’m running late for work. It’s moisturising and has pretty good color pay off !

Mac  Modesty is a nude that has a subtle brown tone. I think it’s great for people with tan to dark skintones. It’s a cremesheen finish.

Mac Brave is my all time favorite nude. I stole it from my mom hehe! It has a subtle pink tone to it and it’s a matte. I love it!

Other Notable Nudes:

YSL Rouge Volupte Nude Beige 01

Mac Velvet Teddy, Honey Love, Myth, Yash

Rimmel Nude Delight

Milani Color Statement in Teddy Bear

Nyx Black Label Lipstick in India

**Lastly I would like to add a few names of really dramatically dark lips! I personally don’t like the look of really dark lips on me but just wanted to throw out some options for you. Fall and winter is the perfect time to sport a dark vampy lip!

Mac Cyber

Wet n Wild Vamp it Up

Rimmel Kate Moss in 04 (black tube)

Hopefully this post was helpful to you guys! Enjoy the fall everyone in the north, as we’re moving into spring in the south! Don’t worry my lovelies here in the south, there will be lots of spring posts coming soon! XO !

Makeup Essentials for a Mini Weekend Trip: the Lesser the Better!

Image

Hello my fellow makeup lovers,

I’ve just come back from a short weekend trip from Sydney and I figured why not do a makeup travel essentials post. I usually go on mini trips a lot just for one or two nights and I really don’t like taking a ton of things with me. Just enough to fit my small makeup bag. From the photo above you might be like “that looks like a LOT of products” but some of the things here are just options and I did not take each and everything with me! So without further ado lets get started!

FACE

travelpost2

Moisturiser: so currently I’m trying out a sample of the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion+ so I have a travel/sample size on me. That’s perfect because in my opinion if you have sample size products, that’s what you should be taking with you on such a short trip especially if you are trying to save some space. It’s a different case if that product doesn’t suit you or break you out…then that’s definitely a no no!

Primer: a primer is essential! Especially if you have oily skin or its summer time! Even though I have normal to dry skin, foundations don’t last on me without a primer so must take a primer!

Foundation: So once again I have a sample of the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation but another option could be foundations that have lightweight and small packaging preferably plastic like the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua shown above. It’s a lightweight foundation, easy to apply, and you don’t even have to use a brush with it. Using the fingers works really well with this foundation. So stay away from heavy and bulky packaging! Also if you’re not to fussy about the coverage, you can go for a BB cream or tinted moisturiser. A tinted moisturiser being a 2 in 1 product saves you from taking two products.

Concealer: I’m taking with me the Mac Pro Longwear concealer! I’ve got pretty bad under eye circles and this concealer is my HG! I will be posting a HG under eye concealers post soon! This concealer has a built in technology not to crease n settle into fine lines which is why I will also be using it as an eye primer.

Powder: I’m just taking my Maybelline Dream Matte powder -nothing special but works for me!

EYES

travelpost5travelpost3

Brows: So I carry my Brow Bar to Go by Whitening Lightning. I really like this product n its pretty convenient to carry!

Eye Primer: Eye primer is very important. I love my Nars eye primer but in this trip I just used my Mac Pro Longwear Concealer as an eye primer.

Eye Liner: I’m just taking a felt tip pen liner. This one’s the Physician’s Formula lash booster. Its pretty decent but not as black as I would like it to be. The Rimmel Scandaleyes eye pencil in black is really black and I’m taking that for my waterline. I can also use it to darken my top lashline and liner. This does NOT smudge which is awesome!

Lashes: Can’t go anywhere without my Shu Uemura eyelash curler. I’ve got very straight lashes so a curler is a must! And just my Maybelline Falsies mascara 🙂

Eyeshadow: So I have a few options here. Definitely not taking all three palettes as shown in the photo! I usually take the UrbanDecay Naked Palette or the Lorac Pro Palette. They are both lightweight and doesn’t take up a lot of space. You can do both neutral everyday looks and very bold night time looks with these palettes.

If I want to save even more space, I just take a mac pro quad and fill it with some basic everyday eyeshadows. Here I have Mac Ricepaper, Satin Taupe, Wedge and Saddle. Wedge is a great transition colour but it’s also really good for contouring if you have light to medium skin tone. That’s a 2 in 1 product again!

CHEEKS

travelpost6

Blush: My all time favourite blush Illamasqua Lover! It gives a beautiful flush to my face without being to overpowering! Great for everyday!

Bronzer: Mac’s Refined Golden – just another HG product, love it! And it comes with a great mirror!

Highlight: This time around I skipped on taking a highlighter and used a shimmery shadow instead. Ricepaper is great golden highlight or Urban Decay’s Virgin is a great champagne highlight !

LIPS

travelpost8

Usually I carry a lot of lip products with me. If you search through my bag you’ll find a ton of lipsticks. The Revlon balm stains are awesome on the go lip products! You can just carelessly slap it on your lips and you’ll still look fab! If you’re planning a night out on your trip, a bold coloured lippy can never go wrong. Here I’m showing you Mac’s RiRi Woo and Ablaze. They are both limited edition unfortunately but they are my favourites at the moment. Mac’s Ruby Woo is almost a perfect dupe for RiRi Woo.

Brushes

travelpost

So here are the brushes I take… sorry about the dirty brushes 😛 … I take a buffing brush for foundation (can be skipped), a powder brush, a brush for contouring and blush (mac 109), concealer brush (can be skipped), and three eye brushes – shader, crease and blending brushes.

Taking it all off

travelpost7

For removing my makeup at the end of the day I just take cleansing wipes with me. It’s easy to use and easy to carry. I also take a cleanser preferably a exfoliating scrub just because if you’re out the whole day you’re face would need a thorough cleansing. Otherwise if I’m gone for just a day or two I avoid taking any other products. I feel I can totally live without doing an elaborate skincare session for a couple of days.

All the makeup products and brushes fit snuggly in a small makeup bag and I’m good to go! I have to take the cleansing stuff separately though.

I’d love to know what you guys like taking with you while going on a short trip?

XO
