Review: TheBalm Instain Blush in Argyle and Toile

instainblush

Hi my lovelies!

I’ve been meaning to do this post for awhile now! TheBalm InStain blushes have stained my heart and my cheeks…in a good way ofcourse! They are $26.95 at David Jones (Australia). You can also buy them from here. These range of blushes are described as long wearing, staining powder blush. I own two of the six shades but I intend to buy more! The shades are:

Argyle (petal pink)

Toile (strawberry)

Swiss Dot (peach)

Lace (bright pink)

Houndstooth (mauve)

Pinstripe (plum)

I own Argyle and Toile. They are both extremely beautiful colors. TheBalm have divided them into two categories: spring or fall. Argyle is a spring blush and Toile is a fall blush! How fitting with Spring approaching the Southern Hemisphere and fall approaching the North! But I feel these two in particular can be worn in any season! They are both extremely pigmented! And boy they weren’t kidding with the ‘long wearing’ part! I wore these blushes for about 8 hours and they were going strong for all 8!

Argyle (left) and Toile (right)

Argyle (left) and Toile (right)

They come in a very nice compact cardboard packaging (classic theBalm) and also has a nice mirror. I love love love the packaging! Can’t stress enough how cute the packaging is!! And obviously the names are reminiscent of different patterns and the patterns are also shown in the packaging!

On to the swatches!

Argyle is a blue toned pale pink with a matte finish. It kicks up some powder when swatched so a word of caution there.

Toile is a coral with a bit of orange and pink. It’s a more of a satin finish and very buttery.

This is me wearing the blushes….lighting sucks in my room sorry if they aren’t two visible 😦

I can’t wait to try more of these blushes! I still can’t decide which one to get next. Can’t buy all of them together…I’m a broke student 😦 I’m debating between Houndstooth and Lace.

I highly recommend these blushes guys! And they are pretty reasonably priced! XO

Favorite Fall Lips!

falllipscollage

Today’s post is dedicated to all the beauties living above the equator! Fall’s fast approaching the Northern Hemisphere. It’s time to change the color scheme of both your wardrobes and your faces! Since I’ve already experienced this beautiful season this year, I thought I should talk about the lipstick shades that I’ve personally enjoyed wearing. KEEP IN MIND that this is just a guide to what colors you can wear this fall, you don’t have to own the exact lipstick as shown in the photos. I have included some different options for each category; both high end and drugstore alternatives.

BERRIES AND PLUMS

Mac Heaux (LE) , Mac Rebel, Rimmel Kate Moss 107

Mac Heaux (LE) , Mac Rebel, Rimmel Kate Moss 107

Berry is the color of the season! When I think of fall/autumn I think of berry or plum lips! My favorite berry lipstick for fall was the Rimmel Lasting Finish lipstick by Kate Moss in 107 (third from left). In the photo its showing up more plummy but in real life its more of a deep maroon berry color. It’s semi matte and I love it. I’ve worn this the most this fall!

Another color that has been my all time favorite for fall is Mac Rebel (middle). It’s a very nice semi dark plummy purply color with a satin finish. It’s a very popular lipstick in the beauty community.

Lastly, I’ll be talking about a limited edition shade. It’s from the RiRi loves Mac collection and it’s called Heaux (first from left). The RiRi collection is still available in Australia (online) and maybe available in some other countries. This is considered to be a matte version of rebel or atleast pretty close to it. I find it to have a more pink tone whereas rebel leans more purple. Nevertheless I love this shade !!

Some other awesome berry/plum lippies:

YSL Rouge Volupte in Forbidden Burgundy 12

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Venom

Mac Diva and Media

Milani Color Statement in  Sangria and Black Cherry

Wet N Wild Cherry Bomb and Sugar Plum Fairy

REDS

Mac Ruby Woo, Mac RiRi Woo, and Nars Dragon Girl

Mac Ruby Woo, Mac RiRi Woo (LE), and Nars Dragon Girl

Red lippies are timeless! Red lips make any look glamorous in any time of the year. I personally tend to reach for my blue-toned reds during fall. This is completely a personal choice because many of you might like warmer toned reds reminiscent of fall leaves. I just love my blue tones in the colder weathers and blue tones makes you teeth look whiter!!

First I have the cult favorite: Mac Ruby Woo (first from left). This is the best red lipstick in my opinion! If you don’t have it, please go get it! It is a matte and quite drying that I must say. But the awesomeness of the color makes up for all that!

Then I have Mac RiRi Woo (middle). This is also limited edition but it’s still available in Australia and it will be repromoted with special packaging this October! It has a retro matte finish which is Mac’s new finish. Retro matte finish is actually drier and stiff. This shade is very very very similar to Ruby Woo, just a tad bit darker. I love it! And that’s no surprise since I love Ruby Woo so much!

Lastly I have Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl (third from the left). This is a more pinky toned red. It’s absolutely fabulous. It’s also easier to apply since it’s in a pencil form!

Other blue toned Reds:

Guerlain Kiss Kiss Lipstick in Exces de Rouge 523 (a favorite of Dita Von Teese)

Guerlain Rouge G in Garconne

Mac Russian Red

Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Red Label and Best Red

Wet N Wild Stoplight Red 911d

Nyx Round Lipstick in Chaos

PURPLES

Mac Heroine, TopShop Straight Ace, and Maybelline Hot Plum

Mac Heroine (LE), TopShop Straight Ace, and Maybelline Hot Plum

Purple lips have been all the trend recently. Even though it might be a bit unconventional, I think purple lips look fab in fall!

Firstly I have Mac Heroine (first from left) which is a limited edition color. This maybe available through Ebay or Amazon but I had to include it since it’s one of my very favorite lipsticks! It’s such a beautiful purple and quite hard to dupe. I love it!

Then I have TopShop Straight Ace (middle). This lipstick is a close dupe of Heroine so if you have TopShop near you, it might be worth checking out. It has a creamier, glossier finish thought and is a tad bit darker.

Lastly , I have Maybelline Vivids Hot Plum (third from left). It’s a beautiful fuschia purple and one of my recent buys! It’s cheap too!

Other Purples:

OCC Lip Tar in Hoochie

Lime Crime Airborne Unicorne

Mac Up the Amp

Nyx Round Lipstick Castle

NUDES

Revlon Balm Stain Honey, Mac Modesty, and Mac Brave

Revlon Balm Stain Honey, Mac Modesty, and Mac Brave

I usually love bright lipsticks and wear them all the time, but during fall and winter I do wear a lot of nudes aswell. These are the nudes that I’ve been loving this fall.

Revlon Balm Stain in Honey has been my go to everyday nude. It’s so easy to apply that I just wear it all the time when I’m running late for work. It’s moisturising and has pretty good color pay off !

Mac  Modesty is a nude that has a subtle brown tone. I think it’s great for people with tan to dark skintones. It’s a cremesheen finish.

Mac Brave is my all time favorite nude. I stole it from my mom hehe! It has a subtle pink tone to it and it’s a matte. I love it!

Other Notable Nudes:

YSL Rouge Volupte Nude Beige 01

Mac Velvet Teddy, Honey Love, Myth, Yash

Rimmel Nude Delight

Milani Color Statement in Teddy Bear

Nyx Black Label Lipstick in India

**Lastly I would like to add a few names of really dramatically dark lips! I personally don’t like the look of really dark lips on me but just wanted to throw out some options for you. Fall and winter is the perfect time to sport a dark vampy lip!

Mac Cyber

Wet n Wild Vamp it Up

Rimmel Kate Moss in 04 (black tube)

Hopefully this post was helpful to you guys! Enjoy the fall everyone in the north, as we’re moving into spring in the south! Don’t worry my lovelies here in the south, there will be lots of spring posts coming soon! XO !

Pictorial: Current Brow Routine and Mini Review

browtute6

Hi my lovelies!

I’m here with my brow routine today. I have struggled with my brows for ages now. I’ve got very problematic brows with lots of sparse areas and I’ve also over plucked at one point. I’m finally now in a pretty happy place with my brows. I’ve discovered some products that really made a difference. I’ve got some requests for a brow routine so I thought this was a perfect time to do a post on it!

So here are the products I use:

browtute products

Royal and Langnickel spoolie

Bloom Flat brush: something I picked up for 5 bucks from a discount store!

Anastasia Beverly HIlls Brow Wiz in Brunette: This thing has changed my brow routine dramatically. It has a very thin tip which makes it so much easier to do an outline and also do nice hairlike strokes. The color does not have any redness or warm tones so its perfect for the brows.

Whitening Lightning Brow Bar To Go: Really great brow powder and it also comes with a brow wax. I used a coupon code and bought it for about 12 bucks (70 percent off). I don’t have the coupon code any more but a lot youtube gurus have coupon codes in their name so you can check that out.

Nyx Above and Beyond concealer in Beige: any creamy concealer will do. I sometimes use the Mac Studio Finish concealer (nw25) as well.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel: This brow gel is amazeballs! It does not make your eyebrows crispy and it doesn’t flake. It really locks the brows in and they stay put for a long time.

PICTORIAL TIME! :

browtutecollage

I’ve minimized the photos in the pictorial because they were becoming a bit repetitive but I’ll explain everything to you.

Step 1 : After brushing your brows in an upward motion with a spoolie, outline your brows with a pencil (Anastasia Brow Wiz). If you have really nice full brows you don’t have to outline the top part but for me I have to do both. The outline is the most important because it determines the shape of your brows. Make the outline a bit more soft in the inner corner.

Step 2: Fill in your eyebrows with the brow pencil in soft upward strokes moving across. Be a lot more gentle in the inner part barely touching the skin because we don’t want harsh lines in that part. After the brows are filled, I go over them with a brow powder (Brow Bar To Go). This is optional. You can also apply a brow wax before filling the brows in. This is optional as well.

Step  3: This is my favorite part. Clean up the area along the outline with a creamy concealer which is lighter than your skin tone. This step really defines your brows making them more crisp and lifts the brows.

Step 4: The final step is to use a brow gel. My brow hairs grow downwards so its a lot more important for me to use a brow gel to keep them in place. I highly recommend Anastasia’s Clear Brow gel. It’s really hard to find a good brow gel but this one is awesome!

Technique and practice is the key to nice brow. Anastasia of Anastasia Beverly Hills came up with the Golden Ration which is a great guide to follow while doing brows. Read all about it here

Hope this helped guys. I still struggle with my brows sometimes. Its okay to not get it perfect everytime. And remember you’re brows are sisters not twins! XO

FOTD/EOTD: Easy Neutral Eyes with a Bright Lip!

candyfotdcollage

I’ve been wearing this look almost everyday this first week of uni: very easy neutral eyes with a bright bold lip. The eyes only take a few minutes to do, so its perfect for those days when you’re running late for class! I’ve been switching up the lippies, but I must say, I’ve fallen in love with Mac’s Candy Yum Yum all over again!

Here’s a closer look at the eye makeup:

candyfotd10

Excuse my red eyes, you can tell uni has already started to dictate my sleeping patterns! The lighting’s a bit washed out in the photo. The lid color is a bit more bronzy in real life.

Here’s a Step By Step of what I used:

– Obviously I primed my eyelids first: Nars Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base

– On the lid I used Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze

-Then on the crease I applied Mac Soft Brown with a Mac 217 brush

– On the browbone I used Mac Brule

– On the waterline I used Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Pencil in Nude

– Curled my lashes

– Applied one coat of Maybelline Falsies and one coat of Rimmel Lash Accelerator on both top and bottom lashes

AND ALL DONE!!!

Here’s a collage of all the products I used (except for brow):

candyfotdcollage2

Top Left: the products mentioned above used for the eye makeup

Bottom Left:

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation: shade 8 and 6.5 (I mix them for my perfect color – one of the bottles is the new design but the product is the same)

Mac Pro Longwear concealer in nw25 and Maybelline Age Rewind concealer in Medium

Maybelline Fit Me Powder in 230 Natural Buff

Top Right:

Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder in 03

TheBalm InStain blush in Argyle

Mac Soft and Gentle MSF

Bottom Right:

Mac Candy Yum Yum !!

Hope you liked this post guys! The eyes are so easy to do but still looks fab with a bright lip! If you like my posts, don’t forget to follow my blog! Till next time my lovelies! XO XO

Priceline Haul and Drugstore FOTD

pricelinehaul1

So if you’re living in Australia, you would know that Priceline is one our more well-known drugstores. They are always having awesome weekly/monthly sales. I’m a huge fan of the place, and if you sign up to their sister program, you gain points which you can eventually redeem. So that’s a bonus! Over the weekend, they had an amazing sale on some of the brands they carry and I just couldn’t help myself, ofcourse! They had half price on all maybelline products! Maybelline being one of my favorite drugstore brands, except for one, all of the things I got are from Maybelline!

So let’s start of with the non-Maybelline product. I purchased the Covergirl Clump Crusher mascara. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this mascara. I liked their lash blast and lash blast fusion mascaras aswell, so I thought I should give it a try. Right now it’s just chilling with my stash of backup mascaras but I think I’ll try this one next.

So now on with the Maybelline stuff:

I just got a back up of my trusty ol’ eye studio gel liner. Makeup in general is so expensive in Australia. Some of the drugstore products are very similar to high end prices in the US so I never pass a chance to stock up when there’s a sale on.

I got the hyper glossy liquid liner. It was on sale for around 6 bucks so just wanted to try out. I’m on the fence about this product. I like the color payoff, I don’t mind the glossiness, I like the tip of the applicator (shown below), BUT its not smudge-proof or water-proof. It’s winter out here so its still okay or if you’re gonna be indoors most of the time. During hot weather it will just be disaster. It comes off so easily with any contact with liquid. Also I’ve noticed the way it dries, it has a tendency to peel off so you gotta be careful with that aswell.

hyperglossytip

Next up is the Dream Pure BB cream for oily skin. This is the newer one. The other one is for all skin types. I do not have oily skin. I’m a normal to dry skin girl. I was debating between the two but I finally decided to get this one become of one thing: the 2 percent salicylic acid it contains. That’s a rare occurrence for a foundation/bb cream type product, let alone a drugstore one. I’m a mere mortal so I’m not immune to breakouts so I think its perfect for those days when my skin isn’t performing so well.

I also got the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch highlighting concealer. Take note of the fact that it says highlighting concealer. This does not have great coverage, but it’s meant to brighten up your under eyes, the bridge of your nose etc. I got the color in 03 sand, but I do wish I got a lighter color just because I like dramatically bright underyes.

Next I got the Super Stay 24 Hour Waterproof Powder. I got the shade 021 Nude, which was a mistake because it’s a bit too pink for me. I’m still trying to make this work. I really like the texture and coverage though.

Lastly I got the Color Whisper lipsticks. I got two shades: Pink Possibilities and Lust for Blush (shown below). The swatches aren’t coming completely accurate. I love Pink Possibilities since its like this neon coral pink. The photos aren’t doing any justice to the color. Lust for Blush is a nice pinky brown nude. A nice nude for my skin tone. They are more like a balmy texture. Kind of like the Revlon Lip Butters. They have a sheer coverage, but can be built up. They are very moisturising on the lips.

colorwhispersswatch

I’ve used some of these products on my face today. Everything else on this face of the day is also from the drugstore:

I can hardly keep my face straight lol

I can hardly keep my face straight lol

Here’s a rundown of the products I used:

Face: Loreal Base Magique Primer, Maybelline Dream Pure BB cream in Medium, Dream Lumi Touch highlighting concealer in 003 Sand, Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour Powder in 021 Nude, Australis Ready Set Go Finishing Powder in Transluscent (under eye)

EyeBrows: Elf EyeBrow Kit in Dark and Nyx Above Beyond Full Coverage Concealer in Beige

Eyes: Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded on the lid,
Maybelline Eye Studio quad in Copper Chic – Shimmery Nude on the lid and Copper shade the lower lash line,
BH Cosmetics 26 Eyeshadow and Cheek Palette (Soft Brown) on the crease,
Maybelline Hyper Glossy liquid liner, Maybelline Falsies Mascara, Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof liner in Nude

Cheeks: Rimmel London Blush in Spring Flower, Rimmel London Natural Bronzer in Sun Bronze, Shimmery beinge shade from the Maybelline quad to highlight

Pictorial: Moss Green Smokey Eye featuring Mac Club eyeshadow

macclublook

Mac’s Club eyeshadow is one of those intriguing eyeshadows out there that you just can’t pass on. It is such a unique color with a multichrome personality reflecting a reddish brown at one instance, a mossy green in another, and a teal in yet another instance. Used alone, the reddish brown shade will dominate but the teal flecks and green tint will still be present. Over a black base however, in my experience, the mossy green color becomes more dominant. And that’s what today’s look is all about. It’s a beautiful mossy green smokey eye that is great for a night out in the ‘club’ or a party! Scroll below for a pictorial!

Breakdown of Eyeshadows:
